MRS. HOUGHTON

Leah Houghton is excited to be teaching students at Brighton Academy once again.  Leah moved to the Kansas City area nearly 18 years ago to attend graduate school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.   While originally from the St. Louis area, Leah met her husband, Elliot, at her local church while she was still a student at UMKC and the two decided they would make Kansas City their home.  They now have three beautiful children together, Jaxson, Noah, and Olivia.

Leah graduated with honors from Truman State University in Kirkville, MO with a Bachelor of Arts in History and minors in both Music and Psychology.  Two years later she graduated from UMKC with a Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW).  Leah has 16 years of experience as a clinical social worker in the Mental Health field and is licensed as a clinical social worker in both Missouri and Kansas.  Leah currently works part-time for a local hospital as a crisis mental health clinician.  Leah has experience working in inpatient, intensive outpatient, outpatient, and crisis mental health settings.

Leah and her husband began homeschooling their children almost nine years ago.  Leah has loved the freedom to teach her children about the wonders of God’s world through homeschooling.  Leah is now looking forward to sharing her years of mental health experience with the students at Brighton as she teaches a dual-credit psychology course.
